I see a way to improve activitypub. Build an extension that does not require servers. Instead it would use servers for discovery of running clients.

Everything else would stay the same except clients can identify by a public key hash instead of domain name.

This would allow single-user local clients to sync directly or through a instance relay with other local clients when they are online, as well as with public domain-based instances. All posts, media and objects could be stored locally as files instead of using a database engine. This would also make it simple to run clients over TOR.

Think about it.

It would blow NOSTR out of the pond.

The obstacle to this is the mandatory HTTPS requiring use of certificate authorities. The client-only version would have to drop this and use public key of user accounts to secure transfers.
